America’s Broadband Heroes: Fixed Wireless Broadband Providers

Matt Larsen has just published a white paper on Fixed Wireless ISPs (like netBlazr, except most of his examples are in rural and other under served areas).  Matt uses data from the national broadband mapping project to point up the tremendous contribution that wireless ISPs (WISPs) are making, with no government subsidies, even while the major incumbent carriers focus on gaming the political system, getting government dollars and skimming just the high return neighborhoods.

There’s great supporting data at the Facebook page of wirelessmapping.com.  Look at these maps of areas in different states where the only source of broadband is via fixed wireless ISPs.  Here’s Michigan as an example:
